Derek's Class

1. In this picture I see a space between two buildings in what looks like an abandoned Japanese village. There are five people in this picture, two of which are wearing kimonos colored traditionaly in deep purple.

2. What makes me say this is that there aren't many people in the picture in what looks like a open area. This might be just because the angle of which it was painted. Also, the general vibe of the painting is soft.

3. After looking at the picture a few more times i see that the way the buildings are made, it looks like a school building on the right, and maybe a little shop on the left side followed by another school like building.

1) What is going on in this picture?
I see people working and walking with hats on their heads. It may be the early 1900’s which is when those hats were in style. It is a possible permutation that the setting of this picture is taking place on a mountaintop because the clouds are level with the ground.

2) What do you see that makes you say that?
The clouds are level with the ground, a man is pulling a huge load of wood or apples. And the time frame is the early 1900’s because the way the women dress.

3) What more can you find?The people in the picture appear Asian.
